On November 7, 2017, we had a special evening at Projective space in the heart of New York, where we gathered the local coworking scene.

Our Coworking tour of New York concludes

As our coworking tour of New York was coming to a close, we were really happy to gather some special people we’ve met in the city and sharing with them the event “Around the World in 240 Coworking Spaces,” co-organized with Odile of the NY Sharing Economy Meetup group and hosted at Projective Space Coworking at 72 Allen St in the Lower Manhattan area. The evening was not just a networking event; it was a visual exploration of our journey we took through coworking spaces around the globe and a round of discussion on the topic of “Why communities at work are important”.

In the heart of New York, coworking operators and sharing economy researchers joined us in a the space of James Wahba, who welcomed us and made us feel really welcomed, to the extend that he even let us rearrange a corner of the space to our liking. As the night started to fall, and coworkers started to finish their workday, we delved into our extensive travels, sharing experiences all the way from Mumbai’s dynamic coworking scene to the chic and trendy coworking spots of Paris, the cozy hubs of Copenhagen, and Shanghai’s premium developments. The stories brought these places to life, offering a glimpse into the diversity and passion that shape coworking spaces worldwide.

Coworking as a platform for diverse experiences

The event of course transcended a mere presentation. Following our talk, the conversation continued with engaging discussions around the value of coworking spaces to people and society. Topics ranged from fostering community in coworking spaces to the nuances of matching freelancing talent with the right opportunities. The conversation and variety of topics discussed, reflecting of the diverse experiences and aspirations of those present was quite the positive experience for us as wrap up to our NY tour. We even touched a bit on the topic shoemaking, and how this has evolved nowadays into a theme for a very special coworking space in Brooklyn.

What truly defined the evening, however, was the sense of warmth and camaraderie. Odile facilitated vibrant discussions, and each participant contributed their unique perspectives, creating a rich common-ground of shared understanding and potential collaborations. It was a beautiful demonstration of the power of community, reflecting this central theme in the world of coworking.

A coworking night to remember

As the event concluded, the connections and conversations continued, sparking ideas and opportunities. Stepping out into the New York night, we really felt a sense of happiness and inspiration that we can have a special night like that in New York. The gathering was more than just an event; it was a celebration of the global coworking spirit, embodying the idea that no matter where you are in the world, there’s a coworking space ready to welcome you into its community.

This event was a step toward our journey ahead of making a book about coworking spaces – an ongoing adventure that connects, inspires, and celebrates spaces that are far more than mere workplaces. As Coworkies, we’re thrilled to have shared this part of our journey with you reader, and look forward to many more adventures ahead where can can meet you too.
